What to Do or Activities in Lava :

Kagyu Thekchen Ling Monastery or popularly known as Lava Monastery is located just stone throwing distance from Lava Bazar. Its an architectural marvel. Lava Monastery was built in 1987 in the Tibetan style of architecture. The serene ambience of the Monastery makes mind really peaceful. On a clear day Kanchenjunga massif is clearly visible from Lava Monastery.

Rachela Peak view point is just 8 kms away from Lava. This view point is located inside of Neora Valley National Park. Visitors can hire a vehicle to reach Rachela Peak view point. Or, if they are adventurous and physically fit enough then they can cover the distance by hiking. The route is famous for scenic beauty of Rhododendron, Magnolia and Bamboo trees. It’s a stiff climb and walking trails pass through dense forests. So, it is always better to take guide, if anyone plans to visit Rachela Peak on foot. From here, entire Lava and it’s adjoining areas are visible. The view of Mount Kanchenjunga, especially during Sunrise and Sunset is really mesmerizing.

Place to Visit in or around Lava :

Changey Water Falls is also located in Neora Valley National Park. Its around 15 kms away from Lava and the road to Changey Water Falls passes through Kolakham, another beautiful place to visit in eastern Himalaya. To watch this beautiful Water Falls, which is plunging from a height of 400 ft, visitors have to negotiate almost 0.9 kms downward trail.

As Lava is bird watchers heaven, bird lovers can also go for finding numerous birds in Lava and its adjoining forests along with Neora Valley National Park. Backpackers and adventure enthusiasts who love to stay more close to nature, then they can trek to Samthar Plateau. Trekking starts from Gompa Dara, a near by place of Lava.
